A complete skin care regiment.
What makes a complete skin care regiment? Do I really need to apply more than one product on my face? I have been asked this question over and over by my clients and friends throughout my career. The answer has always been, “YES !” Why apply multiple products? Is each product so different and do they really do something more to my skin? The answer is, “Yes, they do!” Let me explain why I recommend layering your products and how your skin will benefit from it.
Alpha Hydroxy Acid and Beta Hydroxy Acid products have been around for many years and continue their strong strides in being a very effective performance to treat a wide array of concerns. These acids promote an increased cell turnover to reveal luminous new skin cells at the surface and promote product penetration. While providing a quicker cell turnover rate, AHA’s/BHA’s impart multi-functional qualities to improve skin texture, decrease pore size, reduce congestion, moisturize, and promote collagen. Everyone can benefit by using them!
Vitamin C is one of the most essential nutrients for the body and is a key component to maintaining healthy, glowing skin. Vitamin C is an active ingredient that brightens and tightens the skin. It is an antioxidant that slows the rate of free-radical damage. Free radicals are unstable molecules that damage collagen and cause skin dryness, fine lines and wrinkles. New research shows that it can reverse DNA damage as well.
Peptide products are one of my favorites. Peptides are made up of essential amino acids. These active ingredients are small, yet powerful in drastically changing the skin! When we age, collagen is destroyed but not replaced. As a result, young and smooth skin becomes thin and wrinkled over time. When collagen breaks down, it forms specific peptides. These peptides act as a signal to tell your skin it was damaged and needs to make new collagen. Applying peptides directly to the skin is a way to trick
your skin into thinking it has lost collagen and needs to make more. I make sure to use my peptide product twice a day to trick my skin!
Hyaluronic Acid/ B5 Serum is an essential hydrator for everyone’s skin! Each molecule of hyaluronic acid can hold 1,000 times its molecular weight in moisture. It is known for its hydrating properties along with its natural delivery into the skin. Feeling a little dry this summer? Apply B5 Serum twice a day.
Last but not least, don’t leave the house without your Zinc SPF 30. Zinc is a mineral utilized for superior UV ray protection and prolonged, broad spectrum coverage. Minerals are safe, effective, reduce inflammation and are designed to be used on all skin types, especially sensitive and acne- prone skin. In my opinion zinc is the only SPF anyone should use.
By describing the functions and benefits of each of these products, I hope you understand now why it is important to layer your skin care. If you would like to know what best skin care regiment is best for you, feel free to make an appointment today for a complimentary skin analysis.
